The Statue of Liberty in New York
The “land of the free” has a real monument to its principles. The Statue of Liberty has been broadcasted across the world in almost all programs that concern the United State of America. Ironically it was a gift from the much maligned French to the people of USA in a gesture of international relationships during the American Revolution. The designer allocated the task was Auguste Bartholdi. The pedestal was the work of Alexandre Gustave Eiffel. After some difficulties created by financial problems, the statute was dedicated on the 28th of October 1886. It is generally accepted as a symbol of democracy and freedom.
You can visit the statue as part of the tourist itinerary in New York City. Of course you may want to burn off some calories by walking up the 354 steps to the crown of the statue. It is located on the Liberty Island within the New York Harbour area. A ferry journey will take you from Battery Park City or New Jersey right up to the monument. Along the way you may be able to stop at Ellis Island, which you could include in your planned visit. The great thing about a trip to the Statue of Liberty is the fact that you are not obliged to walk up and down the stairs. It is possible to enjoy a perfectly reasonable venture from the New York City Sightseeing Cruises. The Staten Island Ferry and the Red Hook Fairway also offer unrivalled views as well as outdoor cafes for your convenience.
