The Grand Central Station in New York

You might not find anything remotely interesting about a station but the Grand Central Station is one of the great attractions that you can visit when in New York. In fact you might be surprised to note that the real name is the Grand Central Terminal. It is a Beaux Arts building the graces the midtown in Manhattan. It was opened way back in 1913 prior to the days of the Great Depression and has been the subject of grand renovation designs. As well as being a monument, this is a practical transportation hub for people living in New York.

You can catch many subways in the vicinity including the 4-7 shuttles on the 42nd Street. Admission is free but you will need to pay fares if you wish to travel on the shuttles. The station is open between 5.30am and 1.30 am. If you are interested in the shopping experience then you need to visit between 8am and 9pm. On public holidays the routines will change slightly. Visit the centre website for further details. This is one of the great meeting places in New York City with millions of travellers every week.

The Campbell Apartment is on the very top of the Grand Central Station. This is a monument to the 1930s tycoon that made it a home and office. Michael Jordan’s Steak House is not far off as well as the wonderful Metrazur eating place.  Souvenir and ordinary shops break up the landscape from time to time.  You can attend the exhibitions at the Vanderbilt Hall.
